We may not be getting a tree this year, so I decorated the mantel

We were supposed to get a tree last weekend, but Daniel was too sick. And now that I'm beginning to come down with the crud, I don't know if I'll be up for it. But I decorated the mantel this year, so at least there's a little festive flavor in the Mammalpants/GinnySkal crib.

We cut logs from the woods (left) and made a chalkboard out of a picture frame (left center). Both ideas courtesy of Pinterest, my new favorite website.

Don't even get me started on how hard it was to find a single strand of warm white lights this year. I went to Target, Michael's, A.C. Moore, JoAnne Fabrics, Walgreens, Wal-Mart and Rite Aid. Struck out every time. Daniel found one box a different Target this week and snatched it up. This is the first year we're doing stockings. It was my favorite tradition as a kid. I truly believed Santa snuck in and stuffed them. Then, as a teen, I always knew my stocking would have a chocolate orange. I loved cracking those open on the table. Who knows. Maybe Santa will bring me one this year.
